

Abeokuta, Nigeria — In a powerful outpouring of love and remembrance, Elder Olufemi Julius Odunlami, the esteemed 4th Baba Ijo of the United Spiritual Church Cathedral, was laid to eternal rest on Saturday, June 28, 2025. His burial marked the conclusion of a series of poignant events that celebrated the life of a devout servant, community leader, and cherished patriarch.
Aged 75, Elder Odunlami’s passing stirred heartfelt reflection across Abeokuta and beyond, as people from all walks of life came to honor a man whose devotion and compassionate guidance left a lasting mark on his family, church, his community and the wider society.
A Homegoing Steeped in Reverence
The final rites began with a touching Service of Songs on Thursday, June 19, at Olufemi Odunlami Avenue in Ibadan. Family members, lifelong friends, and spiritual brethren gathered to sing hymns, share memories, and express gratitude for the life and legacy of the beloved elder.


A second Service of Songs followed on Thursday, June 26, at the United Spiritual Church Cathedral, Amolaso, Abeokuta — the very sanctuary where Elder Odunlami had served diligently in faith and leadership. The atmosphere was a blend of joy and solemnity as voices were lifted in worship, honoring the legacy of a man of unwavering faith.
A Night of Reflection and Unity
On Friday, June 27, the eve of the burial, a Christian Wake Keep was held at The Lambs Events, located on Ajebo Road near Chrisland University. The gathering served as a moment for extended family, dignitaries, church elders, and admirers to pay their final respects. Testimonies flowed freely — of a man who embodied humility, generosity, and spiritual wisdom.
A Glorious Farewell
Saturday’s final burial service was held at the United Spiritual Church Cathedral. The church, adorned with soft floral arrangements and portraits capturing Elder Odunlami’s warm smile, welcomed mourners dressed in dignified attire. The sermon, delivered by senior clergy, emphasized his dedication to God’s work, his moral fortitude, and the quiet strength that defined his leadership.
In a deeply symbolic gesture, he was laid to rest within the in Abeokuta just as he had to his children while he was alive.
