Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Accord Party in Ogun State has officially announced Okewole Shuaib Olaniyi popularly known “Agbongbo Akala” as its gubernatorial candidate.

The announcement was made on Tuesday during the party’s 2026 primary election for the governorship and State House of Assembly seats, held at the Accord Party secretariat in Abeokuta. The Chairman of the State Chapter and head of the electoral committee, Oke Rotimi Michael, declared Olaniyi the winner following the party’s adoption of a consensus approach to select its flagbearers. Other members of the electoral committee overseeing the process included the secretary, Mr. Ajetunmobi Lateef, as well as Mrs. Feyisetan Babatunde, Mrs. Rasheedat Shittu, and Mr. Caleb Adetoro.

Alongside the governorship ticket, the party also ratified the winners for several State House of Assembly constituencies. Among those who emerged victorious through the consensus process were Mr. Salami Monsuru for Ado-Odo/Ota 2 State Constituency, Mr. Jinadu Oyeniyi for Sagamu 1 State Constituency, and Mrs. Abulraheem Lateefat for Abeokuta North State Constituency.

Speaking at the event, the party chairman, Oke Rotimi Michael, urged all the newly elected candidates to remain focused and dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of local residents. Emphasizing that Accord Party belongs to the masses rather than a select clique of career politicians, Michael stated that this election cycle represents the first step toward delivering much-needed grassroots development to Ogun State.

“We have a lot of things to do to make our state great,” Michael said. “Let’s go out and preach to people, tell them we want development and not retrogression. I assure you that Accord is here to bring the much-needed development. Let’s bear it in mind and go out to tell people that this time around, it’s not selfishness as usual.”

In his acceptance speech, the newly minted governorship candidate, Okewole Olaniyi—who was represented at the venue by the Director-General of his campaign organization, Waheed Azeez—expressed deep appreciation to the party leadership and its members. He promised that his campaign would work strategically to dismantle the political status quo and deliver meaningful change to the people of Ogun State.

“We are making an attempt to effect a total overhaul of the status quo politically,” Olaniyi’s representative stated. “We believe that what we are witnessing in the state is not the best, and the Accord Party is poised to change it strategically and bring about something positive.”
