The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Chief Toyin Amuzu, popularly known as TA, has pledged to pursue legislation and initiatives aimed at protecting personsb with disabilities and improving their conditions of living.
Amuzu made the commitment while meeting members of the People with Disability Progressive Forum in Abeokuta, where he described persons living with disabilities as people who deserve special care, protection and opportunities to live with dignity.
According to him, persons with disabilities should not be left behind in the development process, stressing that their rights, welfare and dignity must be adequately protected through appropriate legislation and representation.
He said his representation at the National Assembly would focus on promoting inclusion and creating opportunities that would improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
As part of his immediate intervention, Amuzu later donated money to facilitate a free loan scheme for members of the forum, aimed at supporting their economic activities and improving their livelihoods.
He also pledged support for the provision of a borehole to address the water needs of the community.
Speaking at the meeting, the PDP candidate for Ogun State House of Assembly for Abeokuta South Constituency 2, Hon. Adeoye Adewale Adeniran, popularly known as A3, said he would pursue legislation to reduce violence against women with physical disabilities.
A3 noted that women living with disabilities could be particularly vulnerable to violence and abuse, stressing the need for stronger legal protection and effective representation to safeguard their rights.
The Deputy Director of the Abeokuta South Campaign Council, Hon. Olanrewaju Sowunmi, popularly known as LASEM, was also present at the engagement where he admonished the people to vote for the PDP to ensure good governance from the Party.
The Chairman of the People with Disability Progressive Forum, Mr. Isiaq Odutola, called for greater protection and inclusion of persons with disabilities, stressing that disability does not diminish a person’s intellectual capacity.
Odutola said, “We are only disabled, that does not affect our brains,” while appealing to political leaders to pay greater attention to the welfare, empowerment and protection of persons with disabilities.
He said the special people deserved better living conditions and urged members of the forum to support PDP candidates, whom he said had been helpful to their plight.
Among those present at the meeting were Alhaji Jamiu Animowo and Ms. Temiloluwa Ogunbona, alongside other members of the PDP.
