The National Examinations Council, NECO, has released the results of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination, with 60.55 per cent of candidates securing five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics. The Registrar of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made this known on Thursday, while briefing journalists at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State. According to Prof. Wushishi, a total of 1,376,423 candidates, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females, registered for the exam. The Governing Council of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta has announced the appointment of Mrs. Folasade Ajewole Madariola, FCA as the 8th Bursar of the Polytechnic. This new development was announced via the Institution’s website on Tuesday. Agency Report The Lagos State Government says an increase in boarding fees in its model colleges is inevitable, to ensure better welfare of the students. This was contained in a statement on Monday by the state’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education signed by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Ministry, Mr Ganiu Lawal. Lawal noted that students in the boarding schools were over one per cent of the entire basic and secondary school student population in public schools in the state. The parents of boarding students at Eva Adelaja Girls Grammar School in Bariga, Lagos, on Sunday, took to the streets protest the Lagos State government’s increase in boarding fees from N35,000 to N100,000. The number of Nigerians with National Identification Numbers, NIN, has increased to 110 million, the National Identity Management Commission has disclosed. This is a 2.39 per cent increase from the 107.34 million that was recorded as of the end of May 2024. Dangote Refinery has denied claims made by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, that it sold petrol at N898 per litre, describing the assertion as “misleading and mischievous.” In a statement issued by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, the refinery clarified its position and urged Nigerians to disregard the claim. “Our attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, that we sell our PMS at N898 per litre to the NNPCL. No fewer than 300 trucks belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL are presently at the Dangote refinery. The NNPC spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye made this known via a video on his X handle on Saturday. Soneye said the trucks were arriving in preparation for the loading of petrol on Sunday. “NNPC Ltd. trucks are arriving at the Dangote Refinery in preparation for the scheduled petrol loading on Sunday, September 15, 2024. “By the end of today, at least 300 trucks will be stationed at the refinery’s fuel loading gantry,” Soneye confirmed.
