Canadian Authorities Detain Nigerian Man For  Domestic Violence

The Canadian authorities arrested a Nigerian man, named Oche Ochogwu for allegedly threatening and assaulting his wife.

According to his wife, it all started 15 years ago in Nigeria shortly after the couple got married and Oche Ochogwu started threatening,and assaulting his wife, Eyitemi Ochogwu who is a medical doctor.

The abuse which has been ongoing for fifteen years, and this forced FIDA to weigh in on the matter.


Despite FIDA’s efforts to settle the couple, their interventions yielded no fruit.

He was thereafter served with a divorce proceeding but his family begged for out of court settlement and which both families agreed that he will be of good behavior.

This then prompted the victim to take him along with her and the children to Canada because he showed signs of improved behaviour.

The accused, the wife and the children arrived in Canada on Friday 6th of August 2023.

The violence, however, continued in Canada, Ochogwu regularly assault and threatened his wife and children.

As a result of his uncontrollable anger and temperament, the wife moved out of the house to another city for protection, prompting the victim to report to the police 86because he never stopped threatening them.

The development later took another turn as the accused threatened to come to the city that his wife and children had fled to, so as to forcefully retrieve the kids and deal with the victim.

The victim had no other choice but to report the matter to the police and the police intervened, and arrested him.

The police also noticed that the accused had made allegations to many Nigerians and family members that the victim is bisexual and this puts her in bad light when she comes to Nigeria.

Apparently, the police in Brampton arrested him and charged him to court for threatening the accused life and abusing the children.

He went on to disseminate information to the Nigerian police and has created confusion against the family members who felt that it is an abomination, she faces rejection back home and this is a criminal offence in Nigeria.
