The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has hailed athletes from Team Edo who have been selected to represent Nigeria at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II Senior Athletics Championship in Accra, Ghana.
In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Mr. Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele described the selection of five Edo athletes as proof of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s visionary investment in sports development.
“The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has released its contingent list for the championship, scheduled for Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th August, 2025, in Accra. Out of the 26 athletes representing Nigeria, five are from Edo State — this is highly commendable,” he said.
He congratulated Treasure Omotsivie (High Jump – Women), Anita Enaruwa (400m and 4x400m Relay – Women), Chidera Ezeakor (100m, 200m, and 4x100m Relay – Men), David Akhalu (400m and 4x400m Relay – Men), and Paris Olympics finalist Prestina Ochonogor (Long Jump – Women) for their selection, describing them as “worthy ambassadors of Edo State.”

Enabulele stressed that their inclusion is the result of Governor Okpebholo’s deliberate and strategic efforts to make Edo Nigeria’s hub for sporting excellence.
“With 20 events on the schedule, our athletes must seize this opportunity to bring home medals and make Edo and Nigeria proud,” he added, while also appreciating AFN President, Chief Tonobok Okowa, for recognizing Edo’s contributions to national teams.
The athletes are expected to depart Lagos for Accra on Saturday ahead of the championship.
