FULL LIST: 31 New Nigerian States proposed by House of Representatives on Thursday

The House of Representatives committee on constitutional review, on Thursday, said it has received proposals for the creation of 31 new states in the federation.

Benjamin Kalu, the deputy speaker, who presided over the plenary session read the letter of the committee containing the proposed states.

The states of the federation will increase from 36 to 67 if the proposal is approved.

The proposed states include:

NORTH-CENTRAL

  1. BENUE ALA STATE from Benue State.
  2. OKUN STATE from Kogi State
  3. OKURA STATE from Kogi State
  4. CONFLUENCE STATE from Kogi State
  5. APA-AGBA STATE from Benue South Senatorial District
  6. APA STATE from Benue State.
  7. FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY, ABUJA State.

NORTH-EAST

  1. AMANA STATE from Adamawa State.
  2. KATAGUM STATE from Bauchi State.
  3. SAVANNAH STATE from Borno State.
  4. MURI STATE from Taraba State.

NORTH-WEST

  1. NEW KADUNA STATE and GURARA STATE from Kaduna State.
  2. TIGA STATE from Kano State.
  3. KAINJI STATE from Kebbi State.
  4. GHARI STATE from Kano State

SOUTH-EAST

  1. ETITI STATE (sixth state from the South East geopolitical zone).
  2. ADADA STATE from Enugu State.
  3. URASHI STATE (sixth state from the South East geopolitical zone).
  4. ORLU STATE (from the South Eastern Region of Nigeria).
  5. ABA STATE (from the South Eastern Region of Nigeria).

SOUTH-SOUTH

  1. OGOJA STATE from Cross River State.
  2. WARRI STATE from Delta State.
  3. BORI STATE from Rivers State.
  4. OBOLO STATE from Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.

SOUTH-WEST

  1. TORU-EBE STATE from Delta, Edo, and Ondo States.
  2. IBADAN STATE from Oyo State.
  3. LAGOON STATE from Lagos State.
  4. IJEBU STATE from Ogun State.
  5. LAGOON STATE from Lagos and Ogun states
  6. OKE-OGUN from Ogun State
  7. IFE-IJESHA from Oyo, and Osun states.
