

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has recorded another professional milestone as one of its distinguished Academic Librarians, Dr. Fauziyah Adenekan, has been appointed Head of Library, Owolabi University, Oke-Ila Orangun, Osun State.
Dr. Adenekan, a Librarian and Information Scientist at the Nimbe Adedipe Library, FUNAAB, brings to her new role extensive experience in academic librarianship, information management, library automation, teaching and research.
She commenced her professional career at FUNAAB in 2017 as an Assistant System Librarian in the Automation Department. Over the years, she served in several units, including the e-Library Section, Cataloguing Department, Wole Soyinka Library and the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS) Library.
Her broad institutional experience culminated in her appointment as Head of the Automation Department, a position she held from September 2025 to September 2026. Her service across different library units has equipped her with diverse expertise in Academic Librarianship, with particular strength in Library Automation and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).


Dr. Adenekan holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Institute of Data Processing Management of Nigeria, both obtained in 2008.
She proceeded to earn a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Ibadan in 2014, followed by a Master of Philosophy and PhD in ICT in Information Resources Management from Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, in 2023 and 2025 respectively.
A Certified Librarian registered with the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) since 2016, Dr. Adenekan is affiliated with several professional organisations, including the Nigerian Library Association, Nigeria Computer Society, Association of Women Librarians of Nigeria, Nigerian Women in Agricultural Research for Development, African Library and Information Associations and Institutions, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, Lagos Studies Association, Practical Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation, Wikimedia Nigeria User Group and the Royal Statistical Society Nigeria Local Group.
In recognition of her professional engagement, she was inducted into the League of Computer Scientists in Nigeria in 2020.
At FUNAAB, Dr. Adenekan has contributed significantly to teaching, research and academic development. Her teaching responsibilities have included courses such as GNS 203: Use of Library, LIS 801: Foundation of Library and Information Studies and LIS 804: Theory and Organisation of Knowledge.
She has also co-supervised Master’s projects and served in professional leadership capacities, including as Secretary of the Academic Librarians, FUNAAB Chapter, and Secretary of the Association of Women Librarians of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter.
Her research interests span ICT in Library and Information Science, information user studies, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), gender and cultural diversity. She has authored 17 publications in reputable journals, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in Library and Information Science.
Her professional commitment was further recognised in 2021 when she received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Nigerian Library Association, Ogun State Chapter, for her teamwork and contribution to the successful hosting of the first NLA Evidence-Based Virtual Workshop, themed “Remote Information Services Delivery During and Post-COVID.”
Congratulating Dr. Adenekan on her appointment, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, described the development as a significant recognition of her professional competence, dedication and contributions to the Library and Information Science profession.
Prof. Kehinde said her appointment was a source of pride to FUNAAB and a reflection of the quality of professionals nurtured and developed by the University.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that Dr. Adenekan would bring her wealth of experience, expertise and innovative approach to bear on her new responsibility, particularly in advancing library services and supporting teaching, research and knowledge development at Owolabi University.
He wished her success in her new role, urging her to seize the opportunity to further demonstrate her leadership capabilities and make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of the institution.
Prof. Kehinde also assured her of the goodwill and best wishes of the entire FUNAAB community as she begins this new chapter of her professional career.
Dr. Adenekan’s appointment further underscores the depth of professional expertise, academic excellence and leadership capacity nurtured at FUNAAB, while highlighting the growing impact of its personnel across Nigeria’s higher education sector.
