……..Hon Adesina urges the Nigerian Railway Corporation and Federal Government to effect the true reflection of the name of the site from Papalanto to Itori appropriately.
The Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa has appealed to the authority of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and the Federal Government to effect the true reflection of the name of the site of the the newly commissioned Funmilayo Ransome Kuti Train, Papalanto to Funmilayo Ransome Kuti Train, Itori as appropriate.
The Executive Chairman, made the appeal during the official commissioning of Funmilayo Ransome Kuti Train, Papalanto in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government.
According to Hon Adesina, ” Although both communities belong to Ewekoro Local Government, there is need for clarification, series of letters had been written on this , but there was no effect.It is this note , that i want to personally appeal to the Nigerian Railway Corporation to effect this change appropriately.”—— the Chairman stated.
The highly elated council boss, said the event was significant based on naming the train station after the famous Olufunmilayo Ransome Kuti, adding that the train station will ease transportation and other business within and outside the state.
He said that it will bring quality service delivery to the grassroots and improve accessibility of both retailers and consumers of various commodities and services without much stress.
Hon Adesina, further stressed that the new train station will also increase the number of social amenities in the council area, saying, it will boost the economic activities of the local government with positive effect on the Internally Generated Revenue.
Speaking at the event, the Olunla of Itori land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdul Fatai Akorede Akamo, congratulated the Executive Chairman, Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa for the transformation of the train station which was rebuilt to suit the modern taste during his tenure as the Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government.
The Monarch, disclosed that the former train station was established in Itori in the year 1901 , expressing his joy that the new and modernized train station still remains in Itori.
Oba Abdul Fatai Akorede Akamo, however, clarified that the station is situated within Itori township and not Papalanto while urging the concerned authority to effect the change to appropriately reflect on the name of the new train station to lay to rest finally the controversy .
The Railway District Manager, Engineer Angelique Ikwuka , expressed her gratitude to His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdul Fatai Akorede Akamo, for his unwavering support over the years for the success of the new train station.
According to the District Internal Auditor, Mr. Abel Otunla , the train schedule is from Lagos to Ibadan / Ibadan to Lagos while passengers can book their tickets online through the official website, www.nrc.gsds.ng.
