

In an exclusive interview on “Gateway Unscripted” hosted by Julius Oyedokun on Friday November 28, 2025, Hon. Akohomeh Johnson Avoseh, Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, reflected on a year of significant achievements that have reshaped the local government’s landscape.
Speaking about his administration’s approach, Avoseh emphasized, “It is not a one-man job. It’s a teamwork… whatever we have achieved in the last one year is a collective effort of everybody in the local government, from the executive arm to the legislative arm to the career civil servants.”
Infrastructure development has been a cornerstone of the administration, with Avoseh proudly stating, “We are not out to outdo anybody’s record. We are the record of ourselves, and we are setting the standard for ourselves.” The local government has implemented an ambitious road infrastructure program, ensuring “at least, minimum of five kilometers of roads are graded in each of the 12 wards.”
Education has received particular attention, with the administration constructing and renovating school facilities. “We realized that some schools have just a block of two classrooms where all classes take place,” Avoseh explained, highlighting their efforts to improve educational infrastructure.


Describing Ipokia’s unique characteristics, the Chairman noted, “We are known as the main gate to the Gateway state. Majority of our people are farmers, and it’s also a combination of many ethnic groups… Our commercial center is a mini Nigeria in the making.”
Community engagement has been a priority, with Avoseh emphasizing transparency: “On weekly basis, whatever activities we engage in is made known to our people” through various social media platforms and communication channels.
Reflecting on his role, Avoseh expressed gratitude, saying, “I must thank God for the opportunity to be at the helm of affair in the Ipokia local government, and at the same time, thank the governor of Ogun state who made it possible for people like me to have this kind of opportunity.”
Avoseh, remains optimistic about the future, stressing the importance of local government: “Without functionality of local government, the people at the grassroot cannot feel the impact of dividends of democracy.”
