ABEOKUTA – In a significant move to ensure party unity ahead of the upcoming elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cleared the path for Hon. Olufunbi Majekodunmi, naming him the consensus candidate for the Abeokuta South Constituency 1 seat in the State House of Assembly.
The decision followed an extensive consultative meeting held by party stakeholders, elders, and fellow aspirants in the constituency. The move is seen as a strategic effort to present a formidable and united front, avoiding the internal frictions often associated with primary contests.
Confirming the development, party leaders cited Majekodunmi’s deep grassroots connection, his professional standing, and his commitment to the party’s “rescue and rebuild” agenda as the primary factors for his selection.
Reacting to his emergence as the sole candidate, Hon. Majekodunmi expressed his gratitude to the party leadership and his fellow contenders for their sacrifice and trust.
“I am deeply humbled by this consensus. It is not just a victory for me, but a victory for the unity of our party in Abeokuta South. To my brothers who stepped down to support this vision, I promise that this will be a collective race. We are now one body with one goal: to deliver quality representation to the people of Constituency 1.”
He further noted that the consensus arrangement allows the party to focus its energy on the general election and addressing the core needs of the constituents.
“With the internal process now settled, our focus shifts entirely to the people. We are going into every ward and every street to share our message of economic empowerment and legislative accountability. The work to reclaim Abeokuta South 1 starts now.”
Supporters and party faithful have hailed the decision, describing it as a “masterstroke” that solidifies the PDP’s position in Abeokuta South Constituency 1’s political landscape.
