ABEOKUTA – Chief Toyin Amuzu, the Asiwaju Leragun Egba and a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially announced his candidacy for the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.
Amuzu, who previously contested for the same position in 2023, formalized his intention during a high-stakes meeting with party leaders at the Abeokuta South Local Government PDP Secretariat in Ago-Egun on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Addressing a crowd of party faithful, Amuzu emphasized that his return to the political arena was born out of a necessity to provide quality representation.
“I am standing before you today to reaffirm my dedication to our people. My mission is simple: to champion policies that will alleviate the current hardship and restore the dignity of every resident of Abeokuta South,” Amuzu stated.
The PDP chieftain was quick to draw a contrast between his vision and the current political leadership in Ogun State, launching a stinging critique of his opponents.
“I want to make it clear that I am not, and will never be, part of an assemblage of individuals bent on plundering the resources of Ogun State,” he declared. “Our state deserves leaders who see public office as a trust, not an opportunity for personal enrichment at the expense of the masses.”

Reflecting on his previous outing in 2023, Amuzu noted that his commitment to the constituency has never wavered despite the outcome of the last polls. He pledged to focus on legislative interventions that directly impact the local economy and social welfare.
“We have seen the struggles of our people. We have felt the weight of policies that do not consider the poor. My pledge to you is a leadership rooted in genuine service. We will push for laws that create opportunities and bring relief to the doorsteps of our constituents,” he added.
Responding to the declaration, local PDP leaders praised Amuzu’s consistency and his decision to start his consultations early.
“TA [Toyin Amuzu] has shown that he is a loyal party man and a true son of the soil. His declaration today has energized the party at the grassroots level,” a local executive member remarked during the gathering.
The formal declaration marks one of the earliest entries into the 2027 legislative race in Ogun State, signaling a robust effort by the PDP to reclaim key federal seats in the state capital. Amuzu concluded his address by urging party members to remain united, stating, “Together, we will rescue our constituency from the hands of those who do not mean well for us.”
