The leadership of Ijebu Ode Local Government has announced the reopening of all major markets within the environs for full business operations on Monday, 21st July, 2025.

Recall that following the peaceful transition of the late Awujale Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the leadership of Ijebu Ode Local Government and in consultation with other relevant traditional authorities observed the traditional mourning period in honour of the departed Awujale.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the local government, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, with the heading; “RE-OPENING OF MARKETS IN IJEBU ODE”, states that, “We wish to inform the general public, traders and market stakeholders that all major markets within Ijebu Ode including Ita Ale, Ita Osu, and Oke Aje, will officially reopen for full business operations on Monday, 21st July, 2025”.

While giving reasons behind the development, Hon. Alebiosu said that it is to balance honouring between the departed king and ensuring that the price does not suffer under economic hardship.

“This decision was made to strike a balance between honouring our departed King and ensuring that our people does not continue to suffer undue economic hardship. We appreciate the cooperation, patience, and respect shown by all during this sensitive time”, he said.

However, he also urged the people of Ijebu Ode not to be moved by any false reports.
.
“Let it be noted that no directive was ever issued to shutdown markets for 75 days, and such reports are completely false.

“We remain committed to maintaining order, tradition, and the welfare of all Ijebu sons and daughters”, he added.
