NNPC debunk reports on Port Harcourt Refinery shut down, says it has commence full operation

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has reacted to several news reports about the shutting down of the Port Harcourt Refinery in the last week.

Reports had it that the Port Harcourt Refinery has finally commenced full operations in the last two months after spending $1.5bn for its rehabilitation.

However, the Spokesperson for the Petroleum Corporation, Olufemi Soneye in a statement issued on Saturday, said that all the media reports about the shutting down of the Port Harcourt are false and not true.

According to him, “The attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has been drawn to reports in a section of the media alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery which was re-streamed two months ago has been shut down.

“We wish to clarify that such reports are totally false as the refinery is fully operational as verified a few days ago by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC.

“Preparation for the day’s loading operation is currently ongoing”.

He, however urged members of the public to avoid such reports that maybe of negative effect to the country as a whole.

“Members of the public are advised to discountenance such reports as they are the figments of the imagination of those who want to create artificial scarcity and rip-off Nigerians”, he added
