The Ogun State House of Assembly has invited the management of Dangote Cement Ibese to appear before the lawmakers on July 17, 2024, at 1:00 pm.

The invitation comes after members of the Assembly expressed concerns over the environmental degradation caused by the company’s activities in the host communities.

During a visit to the cement plant, lawmakers observed that the company’s operations were unsustainable and harmful to the environment and the well-being of the people.

They noted that the company’s activities had affected over 50 communities, causing darkness and loss of lives and properties due to indiscriminate parking by trailer drivers.

The lawmakers, including Adegoke Adeyanju, Bisi Oyedele, Samusideen Lawal, Yusuf Amosun, Oluseun Adesanya, and Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, called for the company to comply with physical planning laws and establish a trailer park as part of its operations.

In a separate development, the lawmakers underwent a capacity-building program to enhance their understanding of their critical role in nation-building.

The program focused on the importance of “matter of urgent public importance and personal explanation” in drawing attention to critical issues affecting constituents and the state.

Speakers at the program, including former Clerk of the Assembly Muyiwa Adenopo and Evang. Morakinyo Akinleye, emphasized the responsibilities of the legislative arm in ensuring quality representation and robust legislative-executive relationship for good governance.
