The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the attack and violence unleashed on its members by the All Progressive Congress (APC) led Dapo Abiodun thugs at a court sitting.

In a press statement made by the PDP’s Chairman, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, the party’s members and stakeholders were brutalized while showing solidarity during a previous Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta.

The PDP chairman termed the violent attacks on members as barbaric and highly disturbing, while emphasizing that such an act is a disgrace to the judiciary, which is the last hope for the oppressed.

Ogundele denounced Governor Dapo Abiodun and his behavior, stating that the Governor’s lack of good governance standards had lowered the gateway state’s standards, which goes against years of excellence among other states.

The PDP and its governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu are calling for justice from the election tribunal over the anomalies marred with the 2023 governorship elections in the state.

The PDP Chairman stated that the party had not asked for or promoted an attack on its chieftains and members’ brutalization.

Ogundele explained, one of the party’s chieftains, Otunba Segun Showunmi, a former governorship aspirant, was brutally attacked, beaten mercilessly and left with several degrees of injuries, and several members had to run for their lives.

The PDP Chairman termed Governor Dapo Abiodun jittery and suggested that he was using unlawful means to scuttle the peaceful tribunal proceedings due to his nefarious activities during the last governorship election.

Ogundele stated that no amount of violence or threats from thugs could stop the trial and justice demanded by the PDP and Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu over the fraudulent election and petitions before the election tribunal in the state.

The PDP called on all security agencies not to compromise in discharging their duties to prevent thuggery or attacks on its members, to have a level playing ground and enhance transparency in the ongoing election tribunal.

The PDP identified some known thugs like Mr. Titilayo Akibu, Mr. Taofeek Somoya, Mr. Akeem Bodunrin, and Mr. Koye Ijaduoye as the masterminds behind the brutal attack, urging the DSS and other security agencies to arrest them and tame them against further occurrence.

Ogundele called for the thugs to be invited for interrogation in an open conference to explain the reason behind the brutal attack on their members.

In conclusion, he stated that power is transient and that history will never be kind to a Chief Security Officer that fails in executing their duties.
