Review justice system for better society – Ogun CSOs Chairman

Federal and state governments have been called upon to review the justice system in the country that will conform with the best practices in the world.

The state chairman of coalition of Civil Society Organisations(CSOs) in Ogun state, Comrade Solomon Alani Bankole made the call while delivering a lecture on Justice, Peace and Community Responsibility in Nation Building at the fourth anniversary celebration and book launch of Oluwayemisi Brown Foundation held at the weekend in Abeokuta.

Comrade Bankole said that the review of the justice system becomes necessary because of the multi faceted problems facing the nation’s economy.

He said that good justice system has been eroded with the leadership problem and bad governance in Nigeria.

Comrade Bankole who is also the national president of People Against Corruption and Injustice(PACI) emphasised that corruption has eaten dip into the fabrics of the nation’s economy, adding that it has seriously affected dispensation of good justice in the country.

He enthused that ordinary masses can no longer get justice in the country because according to him good justice has been made for the highest bidder.

The State chairman of CSOs said that the Nigeria system has collapsed which has affected the justice system, saying that the leadership problem has affected all facets of the economy.

He said” judiciary which is suppose to be the hopes of the common man is no longer the case, masses have no hope in the Judiciary again because everything has turned into cash and carry”.

Comrade Bankole therefore hinted that there should be a review and evaluation of justice system in the country so that ordinary masses can have hope, trust and confidence so that the environment, community, society and the country at large can be better for it.

Superintendent Mariam Akinsanya who represented the controller of Borstal Institution, Adigbe in Abeokuta explained that the institution is a remand home where juvenile are being kept ranging from 16 years to 23 years and above.

Superintendent Akinsanya stressed that that those students being kept in the remand home are found to be beyond parental control and students in conflict.

She said that the borstal institution has educational facilities for the students willing to study in educational institution from secondary school to the University level and for others willing to learn apprenticeship job.

Other lectures that were delivered at the book launch include prison welfare and the importance of care and rehabilitation for inmates, implications of stress on human health and well- being among others.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Major M. A. Adeniji who was represented by Major J. Abolade from the college of logistics, Lagos commended the founder of the foundation for her fourth remarkable years of impact, compassion, and service to humanity, saying that four years of restoring hope is not a small feat.

Major Adeniji noted that he is proud of what the foundation has achieved in the last four years and commended the founder for documenting the journey and the lives the foundation has touched, believing that the book being launched will inspire many more to serve humanity.

In her speech, the founder of OBF foundation, Mrs Oluwayemisi Brown thanked everyone for their presence saying that the foundation is an humanitarian organization dedicated to promoting justice, peace and support for the less privileged in the society.

Mrs Brown stressed that the foundation has been actively involved in prison outreach and inmate welfare, alternative dispute resolutions, advocacy against injustice, human rights awareness, community support and public enlightenment through media and social platforms among others.

Other highlights of the programme is the presentation of awards to well deserving members of the public who have contributed to the growth and development of the society.
