The Accord Party has announced a nationwide membership surge following the defection of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, to its platform in Abuja on Tuesday.

The party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, disclosed the development during a press conference at the Accord national secretariat, describing the influx as a decisive boost ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Maxwell Mgbudem said the entry of Senator Ademola Adeleke, alongside political associates and supporters, had driven unprecedented national acceptance for the party.

He stated that thousands of Nigerians had since joined Accord across several states, attributing the momentum to Governor Adeleke’s political influence and broad appeal.

According to Mgbudem, the development has strengthened the party’s national profile and reinforced its relevance within Nigeria’s democratic space.

The chairman also addressed claims of internal division, firmly dismissing reports of factionalisation within the party.

Maxwell Mgbudem accused the party’s expelled former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, of spreading misinformation and falsely claiming leadership positions to gain political relevance.

He said Christopher Imumolen never held or was elected into any leadership office within Accord, describing the claims as baseless and misleading.

Mgbudem added that members and observers in Osun State witnessed the transparent emergence of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the duly nominated Accord candidate during the governorship primaries.

He reiterated that the Accord Party remained united, stable, and focused on electoral success, despite what he described as deliberate distractions.

Maxwell Mgbudem concluded that the Accord Party membership surge reflected a resilient and fast-growing movement, warning that political opportunists would not derail the party’s preparations for future elections.
