The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations and Pro-Democracy Activists in Ogun State has held a commemorative event in Abeokuta today, to mark the 2025 World Human Rights Day.

The programme aimed to amplify advocacy for the protection and promotion of human rights, while demanding accountability from those involved in abuses such as police brutality, social violence, assaults, and repression. It also called for a stronger economy, true democracy, and good governance.

The event was attended by top government dignitaries, human rights advocates, and representatives of various civic groups in Ogun State.

Speaking with newsmen after the event, the Ogun State NBA Chairman, Barr. Kayode Aderemi, urged the media to strengthen their approach to reporting human rights issues, stressing the need to highlight fundamental rights more effectively.

Also speaking, the convener and Chairman of the Coalition noted that the gathering forms part of continuous efforts to raise awareness on rights abuses across the country, while calling for a just and equitable society.

The event however saw an emotional moment when participants observed a one-minute silence in honour of the late human rights activist, Tunde Oladunjoye who was said to have died in the struggle and course for a just society.
