Dapo Abiodun Escalates Political War — Seals Gbenga Daniel’s Home and Hotel in Power Play

Dapo Abiodun Escalates Political War — Seals Gbenga Daniel’s Home and Hotel in Power Play 2

In what many are describing as a blatant act of political vendetta, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has ordered the sealing of properties belonging to his predecessor and political heavyweight, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD).

On Monday, officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority stormed Sagamu, delivering and pasting official “Notice of Seal/Stop Work Orders” on Daniel’s private residence and one of his hotels, Adeola Court.

This move comes despite mounting public outcry and growing tensions across Ogun State, with many accusing the governor of using state machinery to target political rivals. The official notices, seen by TheCityPulseNews, cite alleged violations of planning and development regulations — but critics argue that the timing and choice of target are no coincidence.

Political analysts believe the action is part of an escalating cold war between the governor and the former two-term leader of the state, whose influence in Ogun politics remains formidable. Many also recall that Gbenga Daniel played a key role in the 2019 political calculations that helped Abiodun clinch power — making the governor’s latest move appear as both a betrayal and a warning shot to other perceived opponents.

This sealing order is just the latest in a string of controversial actions by Abiodun’s administration, which has been accused of weaponising government agencies to intimidate critics and opposition figures. Civil society groups have warned that such targeted clampdowns risk plunging Ogun into a climate of fear and political instability.

As tension simmers, all eyes are now on whether Daniel will challenge the legality of the sealing in court — or whether this is merely the opening chapter of a deeper political battle that could shape Ogun’s future.
