Shanties Demolition Process

The Ogun State Government has commenced the demolition of shanties and makeshift structures erected under bridges and public places across the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has seized this opportunity to criticize the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led Government. According to the PDP, the proliferation of shanties reflects the government’s failure to address the underlying issues that lead to such desperate living conditions. The party has consistently advocated for the construction of low-cost lock-up shops in commercial centers, providing residents with legitimate trading spaces while generating revenue for the government.

However, the PDP also emphasizes that the government must not simply demolish without offering alternatives. As the shanties are torn down, affected residents deserve viable options. The absence of a clear plan for relocation raises concerns about the impact on vulnerable citizens.

Shanties, often associated with animals, should not be the fate of human beings. The government’s responsibility extends beyond demolition; it must create better commercial spaces that alleviate socio-economic hardships. A compassionate approach is essential to prevent further suffering among the people.

As the demolition continues, questions remain about the true cost—both in tears and blood—of the government’s actions. Ogun State stands at a crossroads, and the decisions made now will shape its future.
