Abuja, Nigeria – August 29, 2025
In a strongly worded open letter dated August 29, 2025, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, Convener of One Nigeria and National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate legal action against opposition figures Mr. Peter Obi, Ms. Aisha Yesufu, and Ms. Serah Ibrahim. The letter, which has stirred political debate across Nigeria, accuses the trio of engaging in activities that allegedly amount to “treasonable felony, cyberstalking, and cyberbullying.”
Dr. Arabambi wrote, “I am compelled to write to you today regarding a matter of grave national importance that strikes at the very heart of our democracy, the rule of law, and the dignity of the highest office in the land: the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The letter references a pre-action legal notice reportedly served by Mr. Peter Obi’s lawyers to activist Deji Adeyanju, demanding a retraction of allegedly defamatory remarks made on August 21, 2025. Arabambi described Obi’s legal move as ironic, stating, “This is the same Mr. Peter Obi who, on October 11, 2023, held a press conference in Abuja where he audaciously and publicly challenged your identity, your parentage, and the authenticity of your academic credentials.”

Arabambi further alleged that Obi’s political movement has been “defined by a sustained and malicious campaign of calumny against your person and office.” He accused prominent supporters of Obi, including Aisha Yesufu and Serah Ibrahim, of repeatedly referring to Tinubu’s administration as “illegitimate,” despite the Supreme Court’s affirmation of the president’s election.
He wrote, “Every day, on various social media platforms, countless individuals affiliated with Mr. Obi’s movement engage in unchecked libel, openly referring to you in the most derogatory and criminal terms without any consequence.”
The letter calls on President Tinubu to direct the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney-General of the Federation to:
- “Immediately investigate, arrest, and question Mr. Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, and Serah Ibrahim.”
- “Ensure that the same laws that protect Mr. Obi from defamation are applied equally.”
- “Demonstrate that no individual, regardless of their political status, is above the law.”
Arabambi also revealed plans to initiate legal proceedings, stating, “I have accordingly put my legal team, led by Barristers Anderson Asemota and Mawah Monday, on notice to file a Mandamus suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja.”
This is not the first time Arabambi has publicly criticized Peter Obi. Earlier in August, he accused Obi and Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero of plotting to “break into the National Assembly and Aso Rock” in an alleged attempt to overthrow President Tinubu A. Speaking on News Central TV, Arabambi said, “Peter Obi and Joe Ajaero have been planning everything possible to make Nigeria ungovernable… That is not the function of the opposition.”
As of press time, neither Mr. Obi, Ms. Yesufu, nor Ms. Ibrahim has publicly responded to the allegations in Arabambi’s letter. The Presidency has also not issued an official statement.
Political analysts note that the letter could further deepen tensions between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections. Legal experts are divided on whether the accusations meet the threshold for criminal prosecution, with some warning that such actions could infringe on constitutionally protected freedoms of speech and political dissent.
The unfolding situation continues to attract widespread attention, with citizens and civil society groups closely watching how the government responds to Arabambi’s demands.
