Abeokuta, Ogun State – January 1st, 2026

The Chairman of the ACCORD in Ogun State, Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael, has extended an open and warm welcome to members and stakeholders of ACCORD, as well as the good people of Ogun State and Nigerians in general, as the New Year, 2026, unfolds. In his New Year address, Hon. Oke Rotimi said that the year 2026 is a ‘defining year that calls for a political awakening and a deliberate choice by Nigerian citizens who genuinely wish for a better Nigeria.’ He urged Nigerians to transcend mere politics and explore a long-term vision that has the ideals of virtue and competence at its heart.

“Our nation’s future will not be secured by temporary gains or promises, but by the decisions we make guided by our visions, integrity, and responsibilities. Nigerians should be more committed to their own future than they are presently to the potential gains they can make,” he said.

He emphasized that, democracy would only ensure proper development when the people take an active role and vote in correctly, electing leaders who are accountable and caring and have the heart and willingness to serve the people. This he said was an important aspect in the upcoming general election in Nigeria that gives the people an opportunity to re-define the direction of governance by making informed and well-considered decisions.

He said, ACCORD remained firmly positioned as a people-driven political party, which was founded upon ideals of social justice, true democracy, transparency, equity, and inclusive development. He reiterated that the party’s vision remains to build a Nigeria where governance is humane, responsive, and focused on improving the quality of life for ordinary citizens.

“ACCORD”, Hon. Oke Rotimi said, “Is an acronym for a political order where power truly belongs to the people; leadership is about service and sacrifice, while the government exists to protect lives, create opportunities and promote shared prosperity.”

He cited recent political movements and politics of realignment going on in the country, such as our dear Governor, H/E Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, which goes to confirm the fact that the People of Nigeria are looking for a viable alternative and a values-based platform to rescue the country out of the situation it finds itself. Hon. Oke Rotimi urged the Youths, Women, Professionals, Artisans, Community Leaders, and Patriots in general, arising out of Ogun State and Nigeria, to rally together with the ideology-rich and democratically-oriented political party, ACCORD, a viable alternative platform to help the people out of distress and restore hope, dignity, and confidence.

“ACCORD presents Nigerians with a clear option, a movement of ideas, discipline, and service. With ACCORD, you can install a leadership that listens, plans, and delivers, and together, we can restore our politics and steer our nation towards peace, progress, and development,” he said.

Hon. Oke Rotimi further clarified his views by reminding all that peace is fundamentally engrained in development, as political participation has to be based on toleration, dialogue, and reverence for democracy. All parties are urged to abandon violence, polarisation, and hatred, and opt for unity of aim for public good.

Finally, Hon. Oke Rotimi wished Nigerians a fruitful and prosperous new year, being convinced that the year 2026 symbolises the dawn of a new political conscience and a more resolute march towards the Nigeria of our dreams.

“Let 2026 be the year we choose vision over sentiment, service over selfishness, and nation over narrow interests. With ACCORD, a better Ogun State and a better Nigeria are truly possible.”
