NSCDC Warns Against Indiscriminate Bush Burning

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command has warned against indiscriminate bush burning to avoid the consequences.

The state commandant, Akinsola Aderemi, condemned the act when the state’s acting controller of Federal Fire Service, Juliet Onyendi, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Umuahia.

Aderemi also cautioned against the use of fire crackers and fireworks, noting that they both could cause fire outbreaks especially as the harmattan season is fast approaching.

According to him, like the service, the NSCDC’s mandate includes combating fire outbreaks and similar emergencies for which it has a disaster management unit.

He lauded the acting state controller for the visit and expressed his commitment to fostering a stronger working relationship between the two agencies.

“This visit marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation and collaboration between the agencies for our shared mandates of securing lives, property and assets.”

In an address earlier, Mrs Onyendi underscored the importance of collaboration between the agencies to ensure the actualisation of their respective mandates.

She sued for mutual support and cooperation between the agencies to sensitise the people on how to prevent fire outbreaks, security threats and emergencies.
