The Ogun Integrity Group (OIG) has renewed its call for integrity in politics and governance in Ogun State, urging political actors and government institutions to place the welfare of the people above personal ambition.

Speaking at a leadership meeting of the group held in Sagamu on Thursday, September 4, 2025, State Chairman, Prince Michael Adesanya, emphasized that only a governance system rooted in accountability, transparency, and inclusivity can guarantee the true dividends of democracy for citizens.

“The Ogun Integrity Group, which I am privileged to lead, was founded on a simple yet profound mission: to restore integrity and selfless service to the politics and governance of our beloved Ogun State,” Adesanya said in his welcome address.

According to him, despite Ogun’s rich heritage and immense potential, many citizens still yearn for leadership that reflects their aspirations through quality education, accessible healthcare, reliable infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

He noted that integrity is the foundation upon which trust between leaders and the people must be built, lamenting that politics in the state is often marred by rivalry and personal ambition. Adesanya urged politicians across all parties to “embrace statesmanship over partisanship,” stressing that “a politician thinks of the next election, but a statesman thinks of the next generation.”

While commending Governor Dapo Abiodun for recent governance reforms, such as accepting the Local Government Autonomy Bill and ensuring inclusive budget consultations, he maintained that more must be done to ensure judicious use of public funds and transparency in contract awards.

He also highlighted the roles of the State House of Assembly and the judiciary in ensuring checks and balances, urging lawmakers to prioritize legislation that safeguards public resources and empowers communities, while calling on the judiciary to remain independent in upholding the rule of law.

Adesanya further applauded initiatives such as the Ogun State Women Inclusion and Equal Opportunities Role and the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), but insisted that programs must be effectively implemented at the grassroots level.

Addressing youths, he described them as “the heartbeat of the state’s future” and encouraged them to demand accountability and participate actively in the democratic process. He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and market women to lend their voices in shaping governance.

“The Ogun Integrity Group is not here to point fingers but to light the way forward,” he declared, pledging that OIG would continue to monitor governance, engage with stakeholders, and hold leaders accountable in pursuit of an Ogun State where integrity reigns.

He concluded with a rallying call: “Let us build an Ogun State where governance serves the people, and where the masses enjoy the dividends of democracy in their homes, schools, and workplaces. Together, we can make Ogun a model of peace, prosperity, and good governance, not just for Nigeria but for Africa.”
