The Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, convened at the Aremo Olusegun Osoba Hall to discuss crucial matters affecting its members and the broader community.
At this important gathering, a vote of confidence was passed in the leadership of Wale Olanrewaju, recognizing over sixteen significant projects executed in the council secretariat during his two-and-a-half-year tenure.
The Congress also extended heartfelt congratulations to Governor Dapo Abiodun on his 65th birthday and the sixth anniversary of his administration, highlighting his exemplary governance and achievements that have positively impacted Ogun State.
The successful hosting of the 2024 Gateway Games was praised for elevating the state’s profile, with a recommendation to maintain the newly acquired sporting infrastructure.
Acknowledging the vital role of sports journalists, the Congress commended their efforts in enhancing the visibility and success of the Gateway Games.
Gratitude was also expressed to Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu for his generous donation of solar power systems and equipment for the welfare of NUJ members, as well as to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi for providing a solar-powered borehole with a water treatment plant to improve community access to clean water.
As the NUJ prepares for its 70th anniversary celebration in June, the Congress recognized the long-standing contributions of the organization to journalism in Nigeria and commended the leadership of National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya.
The Congress also expressed condolences for the recent losses of Comrade Bukola Agbakaizu and the spouse of Comrade Olusola Oladapo, while emphasizing the importance of health awareness and regular checkups to combat health issues such as cardiac arrest.
