Ogun PDP Backs Tinubu, Disowns Dapo Abiodun in Explosive Rally

Ogun PDP Backs Tinubu, Disowns Dapo Abiodun in Explosive Rally 2

In a shocking twist on Ogun State’s political terrain, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while delivering a stinging rebuke to Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership style and performance.

The bombshell dropped during a campaign rally for PDP’s House of Representatives candidate, Oluwole, in Remo, where the party’s 2023 governorship flagbearer, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, made his allegiance clear.

“We are more with Tinubu than with Dapo Abiodun,” Adebutu declared, triggering rapturous cheers from the crowd.

Adebutu didn’t stop there. In what many see as a direct challenge to Governor Abiodun’s relevance, he fired:
“Tinubu lost in Dapo Abiodun’s ward but won in mine.”

The comment drew applause and raised eyebrows across political divides, as it underscored Adebutu’s assertion that even APC loyalists trust Tinubu more than their own state governor.

According to the former lawmaker, PDP in Ogun State recognizes and respects Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to stabilize Nigeria but cannot extend the same courtesy to Abiodun, who he accused of incompetence, elitism, and neglect.

“This is not about political parties anymore,” Adebutu thundered. “This is about failed leadership. Ogun State is in crisis — bad roads, broken promises, economic strangulation, and a disconnected government. The people are suffering, and we will not be silent.”

He further lambasted Abiodun’s administration for marginalising certain regions, especially Remo, and running what he described as “a government of cronies.”

Political observers say this open endorsement of Tinubu by a PDP heavyweight could signify a shift in strategy ahead of 2027 — potentially isolating Abiodun within the APC and repositioning the PDP as a more pragmatic opposition bloc.

While some view this as a calculated move to curry federal favour, others interpret it as a moral stance against what they call “governance failure in Ogun.”

One thing is clear — the Ogun PDP-Tinubu alliance has redrawn battle lines in the state’s political war, with Dapo Abiodun standing increasingly alone.
