A renowned security expert and peace advocate, Otunba Adejare Rewane Adegbenro, has been inducted as a fellow of the College of Diplomatic Studies and International Relations (CDSIR) in Abuja. He joined 23 other distinguished Nigerians honoured at the institution’s second graduation and induction ceremony for their contributions to peacebuilding and conflict resolution in the country.

The well-attended event also marked the graduation of 16 students from the college, which has been at the forefront of training professionals in diplomacy, international relations, and conflict resolution.

In his remarks, Otunba Adegbenro commended the college for aligning its mission with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s peace-building initiatives. He announced his intention to sponsor more Nigerians to study at the institution, emphasising that investing in human capacity for diplomacy is essential for national unity and security.

Other inductees also lauded the college’s efforts, describing it as a vital contributor to both local peacebuilding and global diplomatic engagement. They urged continued support for the institution to expand its reach and impact.

Earlier In his address, Chairman of the ceremony and Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola, underscored the importance of diplomacy in fostering peace and political development. He urged Nigerians to embrace diplomatic values at all levels of society as a means of achieving national cohesion and stability.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, who was represented at the event, noted that the true essence of diplomacy extends beyond formal dialogue. She stressed that peaceful conflict resolution requires commitment, empathy, and proactive engagement from all stakeholders.

The ceremony further recognised three eminent Nigerians — former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the Olowu of Owu, and Christie Ada Sam-Ode, wife of the Deputy Governor of Benue State — for their outstanding contributions to diplomacy, leadership, and national development.
