Police, NBA Set Up Joint Committee to Strengthen Collaboration On Law Enforcement 2

The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) have formed a joint committee to enhance cooperation and strengthen mutual understanding in the enforcement of laws across the country.

The development followed a recent meeting between the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and a delegation of the NBA led by its President, Afam Osigwe (SAN), at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting, whose outcome was announced on Thursday, focused on improving collaboration between the two institutions and addressing public concerns over the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991.

During the discussions, both parties emphasized the need for synergy between the Police and the Bar in upholding the rule of law, protecting citizens rights, and promoting public confidence in the justice system. They also highlighted the importance of fairness and accountability in law enforcement operations.

Following the deliberations, the Inspector-General of Police announced a temporary suspension of the enforcement of the tinted glass law.

He explained that while there was no explicit court order halting the exercise, the decision was taken in the interest of Nigerians and out of respect for the NBA, pending the hearing of a related case before the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, on October 16, 2025.

Egbetokun said the newly established Police NBA committee would serve as a platform for continuous dialogue and cooperation on legal and operational matters affecting both institutions. He noted that the partnership would help prevent misunderstandings and ensure a more transparent approach to issues involving citizens rights.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who conveyed the outcome of the meeting, urged motorists to use the suspension period to regularise their vehicle documentation and comply with all laws governing the use of tinted or shaded glasses.

Hundeyin reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to enforce all extant laws with professionalism, fairness, and respect for human rights. He added that the Force would continue to engage with relevant stakeholders to deepen trust and ensure justice in its operations.

The Inspector General reiterated his administration determination to sustain collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association and other justice sector partners, stressing that such cooperation is vital for building a transparent, law abiding, and safer nation.
