The Ogun State Government, through the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, has taken disciplinary action against a teacher and school principal following the death of Monday Arijo, an SS2 student of Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-emi
The teacher involved has been suspended, with allegations that his actions, involving beating and punitive measures, contributed to the student’s death on Friday.
The teacher’s immediate arrest followed the incident, while the school’s principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, received a formal query for allegedly permitting corporal punishment on the pupil, contravening the state’s educational guidelines.
“The principal was given 24 hours to explain her actions and why disciplinary actions should not be taken against her for acting against the instructions of constituted authority,” stated a ministry spokesperson.
The Ogun State Government expressed its condolences to the bereaved family, sending an official letter signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary.
Describing the late Arijo as “an exceptional pupil who would be missed by his colleagues, the school, and the state at large,” the ministry extended its sympathies and assured the family of a thorough investigation and justice.
The letter also conveyed prayers for the family’s strength in this difficult time, wishing peace for the departed soul.
