Why Lagos West Must Send Obasa to the Senate in 2027 – Ayo Mojoyin

As the race towards the 2027 general elections slowly takes shape, conversations across Lagos political corridors are turning towards one central question: Who will be the next true representative of Lagos West Senatorial District at the National Assembly? Among stakeholders, political watchers, and ordinary residents, one name resonates with credibility, capacity, and grassroots appeal — Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, the current Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa’s journey in the Lagos State House of Assembly stands as one of the most remarkable in the annals of Nigerian subnational politics. Having served for over two decades and currently holding the record as the longest-serving Speaker in the history of Lagos, he has built a reputation for transforming the Assembly into the most vibrant in Nigeria.

Under his leadership, the Assembly has passed landmark legislations on security, transportation, environmental sustainability, healthcare, and education — laws that have not only defined Lagos’ development blueprint but also influenced legislative practice across other states. His legislative acumen and political courage are exactly what Lagos West needs in Abuja, especially at a time when the Senate plays a central role in Nigeria’s democratic balance.

Lagos West is arguably the most strategic senatorial district in Nigeria, covering areas like Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, Mushin, Ikeja, Alimosho, Badagry, Oshodi-Isolo, Amuwo-Odofin, and Ojo. It is home to the state capital, the international airport, and the Lagos-Badagry corridor, which connects Nigeria to the West African sub-region.

Given its size, population, and economic weight, Lagos West cannot afford weak representation. Stakeholders agree that only a politically seasoned, grassroots-tested leader like Obasa can defend and promote the interests of the district at the Red Chamber.

What makes Obasa unique is his organic connection to the people. From Agege where his political career blossomed, he has always prioritized empowerment, youth development, and community engagement. His reputation as a “grassroots Speaker” has endeared him to artisans, traders, transport workers, and youth associations across Lagos West.

For many residents, this makes him the natural choice for Senate, as they believe he would carry the people along and never abandon the district’s pressing needs.

At a time when federal representation is increasingly about lobbying power and negotiation skills, Obasa’s political dexterity stands him out. Having managed Lagos politics at legislative and executive levels, and building strong alliances across the party structure, he has the experience to champion Lagos West’s interest on issues of infrastructure, power supply, industrial growth, and federal presence.

Across Agege, Alimosho, Badagry, and Ikeja, the street consensus is that Obasa has earned the Senate ticket. For them, it is not just about political reward for his years of service, but about competence, continuity, and his proven capacity to deliver results.

“Obasa is one of us, and he has shown that he can stand for us. Lagos West deserves a man who knows the terrain and who won’t need an orientation when he gets to Abuja. That man is Obasa,” says Mrs. Kehinde Adebayo, a market leader in Ojo.

Lagos West, with its massive population and economic importance, deserves no less than a strong, tested, and trusted representation in the Senate. Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa embodies this requirement. His legislative experience, grassroots popularity, and political reach make him the clear choice for 2027.
