ABEOKUTA – Olufunbi Majekodunmi, the PDP consensus candidate for Abeokuta South 1, has formally clarified the status of his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), while issuing a strong appeal for internal unity within his current party.
In a statement released to address recent inquiries, Majekodunmi maintained that he followed all necessary protocols to sever ties with his former party.
“I wish to clearly state that I duly submitted my resignation letters to the APC Ward Chairman, Local Government leadership, and State Secretariat as required,” Majekodunmi stated.
Addressing questions regarding his activity at the grassroots level during the transition, he noted, “I never went to the Wards, as I barely spent 2 weeks there.”
The candidate asserted that his exit is well-documented, citing “acknowledgment records, screenshots showing my exit from APC platforms/groups, and communications reflecting that my resignation was initially resisted by my Ward Chairman.”
Regarding the status of his data on the APC’s digital infrastructure, Majekodunmi clarified that such matters are external to his control.
“The subsequent removal of my details from the party’s internal digital portal remains entirely within the administrative control of the APC and not mine,” he said, adding that “several attempts were made as regards” ensuring the records were updated. “No individual should be unfairly held responsible for actions or delays beyond their authority after formally resigning.”
Turning his attention to internal PDP dynamics, Majekodunmi urged supporters to avoid rhetoric that could fracture the party’s front.
“I urge my fellow PDP members and supporters to respectfully desist from actions or narratives capable of creating unnecessary division within our fold,” he said. “We must rise above personal interests and remain focused on unity, peace, and the collective progress of our party and constituency.”
He concluded by emphasizing that the party’s success depends on its ability to remain a cohesive unit.
“Our strength has always been in our solidarity, mutual respect, and shared vision for a better future,” Majekodunmi stated. “Let us continue to build together in unity and good faith.”
