Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has imposed a temporary blackout on the coverage of all National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) activities following the alleged assault on a journalist, Olajide Osoba, during the 2025 May Day celebration.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday at the June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, the venue for the Workers’ Day event. According to reports, Osoba, a member of the NUJ, was allegedly attacked by individuals purported to be NANS members, raising serious concerns over the safety and security of media personnel in the line of duty.
In swift response, the Ogun NUJ leadership announced a temporary suspension of press coverage for all NANS-related activities until a thorough investigation is conducted. The Union condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for immediate accountability and urging authorities to identify those responsible.

“The safety of journalists is paramount,” the NUJ stated, reaffirming its commitment to protecting media practitioners across Ogun State and beyond. The leadership further called on NANS to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and ensure such incidents do not happen again.
This directive underlines the NUJ’s dedication to fostering a secure and conducive environment for journalists. Further updates on the case will be provided as investigations progress.
