Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has issued a sharp rebuttal to media reports regarding an All Progressives Congress (APC) Ogun Central Senatorial District meeting held on Thursday, April 23, 2026.In a statement released via his media office, Amosun characterized recent news accounts as a “complete misrepresentation” of the proceedings held at the residence of Chief Olusegun Osoba. He clarified that the meeting was convened at his own instance to address “insinuations” regarding his potential candidacy for the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, the former governor sought to set the record straight on three specific fronts:
Amosun noted that three senatorial aspirants had previously visited him to seek his support. During those visits, he claims each aspirant “volunteered that if I am interested in contesting for the office, they would withdraw their candidacy.”
The Senator denied making any demands for others to step down. “Nowhere throughout the meeting did I request anyone to withdraw from the race for me because that would be undemocratic and unacceptable,” the statement read.
Amosun expressed a firm stance on the upcoming electoral process, stating: “I would not be part of a primary election whose result is predetermined.”
> “I wish to reiterate that I am not only a democrat, I have contested and won election twice to the office of Governor of Ogun State and twice as a Senator of the Federal Republic.”

Amosun concluded by advising media outlets to verify information provided by “interested parties” to ensure accurate reporting of political proceedings.
