Abeokuta, Nigeria – Chief Mutiu Ajibade McGregor has rejected a suspension notice issued against him by the Ilawo Traditional Council, insisting that he remains the only authentic Borokini of Ilawo Kingdom.
In a statement, Chief McGregor said: “I am the authentic Borokini of Ilawo Kingdom. The suspension notice is disputed and not reflective of the full facts.”
He argued that the council which announced the suspension is aligned with King Olusegun Alexander McGregor, whose legitimacy is currently being challenged in court. “The king is not the highest authority in Ilawo town, and any action taken by the monarch is subject to legal review,” he declared.
Chief McGregor emphasized his continued commitment to the traditions of Ilawo, saying: “I remain firmly committed to the customs and traditions of Ilawo Kingdom and will continue to serve our community in my capacity as Borokini.”

He urged the public to disregard reports of his suspension, stressing: “I urge the public, the media, and all well-meaning sons and daughters of Ilawo to disregard misleading publications and await official communication from my office or the relevant authorities.”
Calling for calm among his supporters, he added: “I call on my supporters to remain calm, as due process will prevail and the legal proceedings will determine the rightful leadership of our kingdom.”
