The Abeokuta Metro Area Command witnessed a landmark moment in its policing history as the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, made a familiarisation tour to Abeokuta Metro Area command.

The visit, held on Tuesday, November 25, 2023, was warmly received by the Area Commander, ACP Ogundele Olorunwa and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the Abeokuta Metro jurisdiction.

This tour forms part of the Commissioner’s broader initiative to strengthen policing, assess operational readiness, and foster collaboration between police leadership and local units. Known for his academic credentials and strategic approach to policing, CP Ogunlowo used the opportunity to engage with sister security agencies, transport unions, royal fathers, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

During his address, CP Ogunlowo emphasized the importance of community-focused policing, stating:

“The more we can have presence in our community, closer we are for our people.”

He highlighted the central role of police stations in effective policing:

“The police station is nucleus of police duty. Every other thing we see… The real police work is implemented at the police station. That is where we have the people at, friendly to the community from all angles.”

Encouraging transparency and accountability, the Commissioner urged stakeholders to provide constructive feedback:

“Please do not shy away from the fact if you see an area where we need to do more. Tell us. If you are not doing well, tell us how. Because if you are not checked, you may just feel you are just doing everything right.”

On collaboration with other agencies and community groups, he noted:

“We all have our mandates… But together, we have one mandate: to keep up with the state’s security basis.”

He also introduced a digital innovation aimed at bridging the gap between the police and the public:

“We developed an application called Gateway Sheet… to take the police system closer to the people. We need to increase our risk points to the reach of people.”

Reaffirming his commitment to public safety, CP Ogunlowo reiterated.

“We are committed to doing our job better and helping keep the state safe.”
