ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — In a move aimed at bolstering inter-agency collaboration and public trust, the Commissioner of Police for the Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, hosted a strategic courtesy visit from the Military, Police, and Paramilitary Public Relations Officers Forum (MILPOPPROF) on Wednesday.
The meeting, held at the Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, brought together spokespersons from a wide array of security and paramilitary organizations operating within the state.
The delegation, led by DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer and Chairman of the state’s MILPOPPROF chapter, included representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Correctional Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Federal and State Fire Services, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), So-Safe Corps, TRACE, Amotekun Corps, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
During the visit, DSP Babaseyi praised CP Ojajuni’s pioneering role in the creation of the forum. He highlighted the historical significance of the meeting, noting that Ojajuni was instrumental in establishing MILPOPPROF in 2005 during his tenure as the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command. Babaseyi emphasized that the diverse gathering of spokespersons serves as a testament to the forum’s ongoing dedication to credible security communication and public enlightenment.
Receiving the delegation, CP Ojajuni expressed immense pride in the enduring legacy of the forum. Taking a trip down memory lane, the Commissioner recounted how MILPOPPROF was birthed over two decades ago as a joint initiative between himself and Major Kingsley Umoh of the 81 Division (then 9th Brigade). The initiative was a direct response to the infamous 2005/2006 inter-agency clash at Ojuelegba, Lagos, designed specifically to eliminate operational friction and foster mutual trust among security outfits.
“The central vision was to eliminate inter-agency rivalry, promote mutual trust, and create a platform for effective information sharing and coordinated security communication,” Ojajuni explained.
The Police Boss urged the current generation of security spokespersons to uphold these founding principles while adapting their strategies to fit today’s technology-driven communication landscape. He stressed the necessity of “speaking with one voice,” sharing accurate information, and supporting one another to build and maintain public confidence in the nation’s security institutions.
He further charged the officers to remain professional, factual, and highly responsive in their daily engagements with civilians, noting that transparent communication is vital to sustaining peace and law enforcement cooperation.
In response, members of MILPOPPROF thanked the Commissioner for his continued mentorship and pledged to uphold the legacy of collaboration to ensure public safety across Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command concluded the session by reaffirming its commitment to partnering with all relevant stakeholders, while urging the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any credible security information to the appropriate agencies.
