As the Osun State Governorship Election approaches, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Oluwole Jimi-Bada, SAN, has urged residents across the state to remain calm, vigilant and committed to maintaining peace before, during and after the election.
Hon. Jimi-Bada called on all political actors, supporters and members of the public to refrain from actions, statements or activities capable of provoking violence or disrupting the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.
He emphasised that political differences should never become a justification for intimidation, threats, attacks or the destruction of property. According to him, every citizen has a responsibility to uphold peace and respect the democratic process.
The Attorney-General further stressed that no individual, regardless of political status or influence, is above the law. He warned that anyone who incites violence or engages in criminal conduct will be subject to the relevant laws of the state and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He therefore encouraged eligible voters to exercise their civic rights peacefully, obey the law, respect electoral officials and allow the people’s mandate to be freely expressed through the ballot.
“As we approach the election, our collective responsibility is to protect the peace of Osun State. We must not allow political differences to divide us or endanger our communities. The law must prevail, and everyone must conduct themselves responsibly,” he said.
Hon. Jimi-Bada also appealed to political parties and their supporters to embrace issue-based engagement, tolerance and peaceful competition, stressing that Osun State belongs to all its citizens and its peace must remain a collective priority.
As August 15 approaches, the people of Osun State are urged to remain peaceful, law-abiding and confident in the democratic process.
