As Nigeria commemorates its 65th Independence Anniversary, Chief Toyin Amuzu, TA, the Asiwaju Leragun Egba and a prominent opposition figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a passionate call for Nigerians to demand credible leadership and actively participate in shaping the nation’s future.
In a statement marking the historic occasion, Chief Amuzu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s potential while emphasising that the country’s progress hinges on the quality of its leadership.
“There is hope for Nigeria, but only if we ensure that people with confidence, capacity, integrity, fear of God and good hearts lead us,” Chief Amuzu declared.
“We must do away with mere opportunists who do not have the love of the people at heart.”

The PDP chieftain delivered a scathing critique of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that the party’s alleged lack of competence and integrity has reduced governance to mere political gamesmanship.
“The APC can only get worse as lack of competence and integrity makes them turn everything into politics,” he stated.
“Only patriotism ensures growth and development. Let us love our nation more than partisan interests.”
Chief Amuzu urged Nigerians to take concrete action by participating in the ongoing voter registration exercise, positioning civic engagement as a patriotic duty.
“Go out and register in the ongoing voter registration,” he appealed. “Let’s be ready to vote and change the tide. The power to transform our nation lies in our hands and we must exercise it responsibly.”
As the nation enters a new month alongside its independence celebrations, Chief Amuzu called on citizens to maintain hope and work toward collective progress.
“As we enter a new month, let us pray for a better society,” he said. “But prayer without action is incomplete. We must combine our faith with concrete steps to build the Nigeria of our dreams.”
The statement comes at a critical time when many Nigerians are expressing concerns about economic hardship, security challenges and governance issues. Chief Amuzu’s message reflects growing calls from various quarters for leadership that prioritizes national interest over political advantage.
Political analysts suggest that the 2027 elections will be crucial for Nigeria’s democratic journey, making voter registration and participation more important than ever.
