The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another setback in Ogun State as Honourable Akinde Kehinde Olaniyi, a prominent chieftain and former chairmanship candidate for Yewa North Local Government in the 2021 local government elections, formally announced his resignation from the party.
Speaking during a media briefing held at his country home in Ijoun, Yewa North, Hon. Akinde expressed deep disappointment with the current state of the PDP, both at the national, State and local government levels.
“The one-time noble party I cherished so much has become a shadow of itself,” he said. “Right from the national level manipulative division in the ranks of the party to the local government level great injustices to our members who have contributed greatly to the party.”
Hon. Akinde, who came second in the 2021 chairmanship race, emphasized that his decision was not made hastily but followed after extensive consultations.

“The decision was taken after critical analysis in due consultation with our supporters at home and in diaspora,” he stated.
He did not disclose his next political destination but hinted that future moves would be guided by his values and follower’s convictions.
“Our next political move will be determined by God’s directive in line with our philosophical value of good governance for the betterment of our people,” he said.
The resignation of Hon. Akinde adds to growing concerns about internal divisions and defections within the PDP in Ogun State. Party insiders and political observers are watching closely to see how this development may affect the PDP’s grassroots strength in Yewa North and its broader prospects ahead of the next election cycle.
