Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, unveiled an ambitious housing development strategy that promises to redefine urban living in the state, the commissioner during a press conference held at conference room of Ministry of housing said delivery of housing is more than just providing shelter.
“Housing delivery now transcends the provision of shelter,” Commissioner Omoniyi declared emphatically. “It is more about dignity, functionality, sustainability, and inclusive economic growth through coherent policies, disciplined execution, and strategic partnerships.”
The Commissioner outlined an audacious goal: “We are on track to complete over 10,000 affordable homes by the end of this administration in 2027.” He highlighted several flagship projects, including “the construction of an international conference center at the “Gateway International Airport” and a comprehensive residential complex featuring “50 complexes, commissioners’ quarters, appointee supporters, and assembly quarters.”
Showcasing the state’s transformative approach, Omoniyi pointed to specific success stories. “When we took over the PMB project in 2019, it was more of a bushy and moribund estate with a lot of inherited litigations. But today, the government has turn it into a world-class estate, rebuilt, restructured, finished and ready for habitation.”

The Commissioner was particularly proud of the state’s strategic positioning. “We have a competitive advantage of being the closest neighbor to Lagos and we have the community advantage of being the industrial hub of Nigeria,” he explained. “The best cement manufacturers started in this local state, the best roof manufacturing companies started in Ogun state.”
Emphasizing a commitment to local empowerment, Omoniyi promised, “We will continue to give our people more limited employment through direct labor approach… We will continue to patronize local industries as a way of giving back to our community and empowering our people.”
The vision extends beyond mere construction. “Our mission remains clear,” the Commissioner stated, “to provide quality, affordable and sustainable housing, while positioning the gateway state as a benchmark for Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria and beyond.”
With a combined capital budget of over N100 billion and plans to deliver an additional 3,000 affordable housing units, Ogun State appears set to redefine urban development. “We are not deterred by the challenges,” Omoniyi concluded, “We remain a resilient, focused and progressive sector, delivering results over rhetoric.”
The housing sector’s approach can be summed up in the Commissioner’s own words: “Thinking, delivery over distraction and results over rhetorics.”
