Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has charged the newly 550 recruited operatives of the Amotekun Corps to be committed to service and also uphold the ideals of community policing as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

Speaking at the passing-out parade of Batch E operatives held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu, on Thursday, the governor who was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the recruitment aligns with his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The governor said that the addition of 550 operatives to the State Security Network Agency is in line with his administration’s sustained investment and commitment to protecting the lives and property of every citizen.

He stated, “This move is in addition to the earlier employment of 690 operatives barely six months ago into the agency with a view to further bolster the state’s security framework.

“This ceremony also marks a significant milestone in the collective pursuit of a safer Ogun State because the Amotekun Corps was established to complement existing federal security agencies by leveraging on community trust and local intelligence.”

According to him, the fresh recruitment follows the earlier enlistment of 690 operatives six months ago and demonstrates sustained investment in security under the “Building Our Future Together” agenda.

Abiodun urged the officers to see the passing-out event not as a mere ceremony but as a commitment to safeguarding lives across the state.

He pointed out that this model of community policing being employed has proven effective as a cornerstone of the State’s security strategy.

In his welcome address, the State Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), appreciated the transformative interventions from the state government, saying it had significantly enhanced the corps’ operational capabilities.

He, however, appealed for more logistics support, including a bigger headquarters, more equipment, and improved mobility, to match the increase in personnel and improve response times.

Adedigba also encouraged the new recruits to work with dignity and commitment as they are deployed across the state to address emerging security threats.
