The Nigerian Youth for Good Governance has issued a strong condemnation of recent social media posts targeting Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), describing the attacks as “deeply disturbing” and “unjust.”
In a press statement signed by its president, John Amechi, the group expressed concern over what it called “baseless accusations” aimed at defaming Dabiri-Erewa’s character. “Hon. Abike Dabiri has always stood as a mother to all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion, or background,” the statement read. “She has consistently defended the rights and welfare of Nigerians abroad, intervening in difficult cases and working tirelessly to ensure our people are treated with dignity across the world.”
The group highlighted Dabiri-Erewa’s long-standing public service, noting her tenure in the House of Representatives and her current leadership at NIDCOM. “Her long years of service… have been marked by dedication, integrity, and passion for the Nigerian people,” the statement continued. “It is therefore unjust and unfair for anyone to attempt to tarnish her image.”
Calling for national unity, the youth organization urged Nigerians to “disregard such negative publications” and instead “support leaders who work tirelessly for the progress of our nation.” It also called on security agencies to investigate those responsible for spreading falsehoods online, warning that such actions could incite division and undermine public trust.

“This is not an ethnic issue,” Amechi emphasized. “Those hiding under the guise of ethnicity to attack her are simply trying to create unnecessary tribal tension. Nigerians—whether Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, or any other group—must reject such divisive tactics.”
