The Ogun State governorship candidate of the National Rescue Mission (NRM), Hon. Olujobi Fayoyin, has raised concerns over the worsening security situation in Nigeria following the recent abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Fayoyin described the incident as a disturbing development and a warning signal to neighbouring states, particularly Ogun, given its proximity to Ogbomoso.
In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, the opposition candidate called on the Ogun State Government to take proactive measures to prevent a similar occurrence within its borders.
According to him, the increasing wave of kidnappings, attacks on communities and insecurity across the country has exposed the failure of government at all levels to adequately protect lives and property.

“The kidnap of innocent teachers and young schoolchildren is heartbreaking and unacceptable. It is a direct attack on the future of our nation and should concern every responsible leader,” he said.
Fayoyin accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of paying more attention to political calculations and re-election campaigns than addressing the nation’s pressing security challenges.
He said the body language of the ruling party has failed to inspire confidence among citizens who continue to live in fear amid growing insecurity.
“Our nation is bleeding while those in power appear more concerned about retaining office. Communities are no longer safe, farmers cannot freely access their farmlands, and parents now worry about the safety of their children even in schools,” he stated.
The NRM candidate urged the Ogun State Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve community policing efforts, and increase surveillance in schools, border communities and other vulnerable areas.
He also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders to work closely with security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
Fayoyin further urged Nigerians to hold leaders accountable and use the next election to reject what he described as failed leadership.
He maintained that the NRM remains committed to providing responsible leadership capable of restoring security, public confidence and economic prosperity across the country.
