Ogun State Assembly Session

The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill of ₦1,054,542,020,147 into law. The legislative approval came during a plenary session held on Tuesday at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, presided over by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, presented the committee’s report before moving the motion for its adoption. The motion was seconded by the committee’s deputy chairman, Hon. Wahab Haruna, and unanimously supported by all members of the Assembly.

Governor Dapo Abiodun had initially presented the budget proposal to the Assembly 20 days earlier. The approved version included adjustments to the recurrent expenditures of 21 agencies, capital expenditures for five agencies, and revenue targets for two agencies.

After a thorough clause-by-clause reading, the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, moved the motion for the bill’s third reading, which was seconded by Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye.

The Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, then read the bill for the third time, following which Speaker Elemide directed that a clean copy be forwarded to Governor Abiodun for assent.

Several agencies saw their budget proposals revised upward. The Ministry of Budget and Planning’s allocation was increased by ₦427 million, from ₦1.475 billion to ₦1.902 billion. Similarly, the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives experienced an increment of ₦719 million, raising its budget from ₦1.780 billion to ₦2.499 billion.

The State Ministry of Health’s allocation rose from ₦3.806 billion to ₦4.116 billion, while the State Teaching Service Commission’s budget increased by ₦1.5 billion, from ₦34.412 billion to ₦35.912 billion. Other adjustments included TRACE, which saw an increase from ₦1.347 billion to ₦1.372 billion, and the State Hospital, Sokenu Abeokuta, which received an addition of ₦140 million, bringing its allocation to ₦3.348 billion.

Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun) had its budget allocation doubled, rising from ₦765 million to ₦1.575 billion. Similarly, the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency’s allocation was increased from ₦252 million to ₦262 million, while the State Library Board’s budget moved from ₦147 million to ₦177 million.
