ABEOKUTA — A section of the Car Wash-Adatan road has suffered fresh structural damage just days after it was rehabilitated and reopened to the public, raising questions about the quality of the project’s execution.
The road, a major transit corridor in the Ogun State capital, recently underwent repairs by the state government to address a history of severe potholes and erosion. However, shortly after barricades were removed to allow vehicular movement, the asphalt began to deteriorate, with significant cracks and depressions reappearing on the surface.
The rapid degradation has caused immediate frustration among local residents and motorists. Many have pointed to poor engineering assessments, inadequate drainage planning, or the use of substandard materials by the contractor as likely causes for the swift collapse.
Commuters report that the newly formed structural hazards have already begun causing gridlock, reversing the traffic relief the rehabilitation was intended to provide.
Community leaders and regular users of the route are now calling on the Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to launch an investigation into the contractor’s work. Residents are demanding accountability and a permanent structural solution designed to withstand the current rainy season, rather than superficial, short-term patching.

As at the time of filing the report, Ogun State Government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the renewed damage or plans for further repairs.
